SPECIAL EVENTS AT GRACE
The NEW Sanctuary
June 24, 2007
Grace will be opening the doors of the new Sanctuary to our church family and community for a GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION! We will invite our neighbors, family, and friends--at home, work, at school--to join us in celebrating God's work at Grace UMC.
Sunday, June 24 th Grace United Methodist Church invites the community to share good food and great fellowship during a “Celebration of Grace”. The event will dedicate the new sanctuary and honor the arrival of our new pastor, Dr. Barry Scott, who will be preaching his first message at Grace that morning at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m.
Tours of the facility—including the sanctuary and parents’ day out rooms; children's activities; and music and dancing led by Kula and WindDance will be available 3-5 p.m. Following these activities there will be a brief worship service in the sanctuary followed by dinner sponsored by Outback Steakhouse.
After the meal, Dr. Scott, an accomplished illusionist, balloonist and puppeteer, will share a program for children of all ages. Another interactive performance by Kula and WindDance will round out the activities for the evening .
“This is a special day that we dreamed about 12 years ago. The celebration of our new sanctuary and the fun-filled afternoon will be special, ” said Ed Woodside, church lay leader. “We hope to see many friends and visitors enjoying the music and participating in the Celtic dance! ”
“The 9,000-plus-foot sanctuary opened on Easter Sunday. It features a state-of-the art sound and lighting system and seats 450 people ,” said Karen Baker, Grace UMC building committee chairperson, said. “It was designed to accommodate a variety of types of services and religious programs.”
Grace began in 1994 with just a few members who met in the basement of Regional Hospital. At the time the name of the church was “Church of the Servant” because of the new congregation’s desire to serve others and Christ. That name was later changed to Grace United Methodist Church, but the ministries continue to be “Reach...people for Christ; Teach...people to be His disciples; and Serve. . .together in God's name."
In 1997, more than 250 active men, woman and children moved their church home to McClellan Road. A large portion of the master plan for the 17-acre campus has been completed recently with this addition.
